Federal and local firefighters are battling a wildfire in the Oglala National Grasslands near the Hudson-Meng Bison Kill site in Sioux County Tuesday.

According to the Nebraska National Forests and Grasslands Facebook page, about 80 acres had burned southwest of Hudson-Meng and north of Eagles Eye since the blaze was reported around 4:40 a.m.

The fire is said to be in difficult terrain with snags and heavy dead or down timber, with the US Forest Service, Crawford, Chadron and Harrison Volunteer Fire departments on scene.

Firefighters are planning on using natural barriers and mechanical line to contain the fire, and the Great Plains Fire Information website says an aerial attack has been requested.
