GERING, NE – The Western Nebraska Pioneers today announced the hiring of Easton Babe as the team’s
Head Coach.

Babe, a native of Omaha and currently an assistant at Arizona Christian University, joins the Pioneers with
direct summer collegiate experience in the Alaska Baseball League as well as the Omaha-based Corn Belt
League. Born into a baseball family and the youngest of seven, Easton carries on the legacy of his
grandfather, Loren Babe, who spent 40 years in professional baseball.

“I am incredibly excited and grateful to coach the Pioneers,” Babe said. “The support from the baseball fans of the region make summer baseball a memorable experience that will stay with our players for a lifetime.”

After earning a Bachelor’s degree in Sports Management and a Master’s degree in Leadership from Grand
Canyon University in Phoenix, Babe moved to Arizona Christian as an assistant and was part of the ACU 2023 NAIA World Series appearance. He now becomes the Pioneers’ sixth head coach as the team enters its eighth year of play.

“Mayra and I feel very fortunate to have Easton referred to us by a former coach whose opinion we really
trust,” Pioneers co-owner Chuck Heeman said. “After a few interviews and some discussion, Easton stood
out not only as a baseball coach but someone who will put the work in to help our players grow both on and off the field. His previous experience in two well-run leagues will help our players learn how things are supposed to be done as they move ahead in their own careers. Summer baseball is a small piece of the puzzle in the development of players, coaches and staff, and it’s important to Mayra and I that our head coach give our players the best experience we can as we fill in that piece of their own puzzles. Easton not only understands that but has proven it in more than one setting. We are happy to get started on the 2025 season with Easton aboard.”

The Pioneers are scheduled to begin their eighth season on May 27, 2025. For more information on the
