Week 3 Area Football Roundup: Scottsbluff, Gering and Bridgeport all pick up week 3 wins

Here’s a rundown of scores across our networks and around the area from Friday night.

CRETE- The Scottsbluff Bearcats improved to 3-0 on the season, rolling to victory over the Crete Cardinals, 48-0, on the road.

The Bearcats led it 39-0 at the half and didn’t look back as the Cardinals now fall to 0-3 on the season. Scottsbluff is back at home next week against a now 3-0 Seward team that handed Pius X tonight, 35-0.

GERING- The Gering Bulldogs built on their best start to a season since 2012 tonight with a, 47-12, victory over the Alliance Bulldogs at home.

Gering had a 20-0 lead at the half an added on 27 more in the second half to cruise to their third victory of the season. Meanwhile Alliance now is 1-2 on the year.

Gering hits the road to take on Ogallala next Friday, the Indians are now 1-2 on the year after falling to Cozad tonight, 47-6.

BRIDGEPORT- The Bridgeport Bulldogs got their first win of the season on homecoming, surviving a second-half surge from Sandhills Valley to win, 64-52.

Bridgeport led, 42-14, at the half but the Mavericks went on to score on five-straight possessions in the second half after fumbling on their first drive to get as close a 12 points a couple of times, but were never able to seal the gap, and Bridgeport held on for the, 64-52, victory at home.

Junior QB Nik Weibert passed for (unofficially) 257 yards and four touchdowns while adding 149 yards on the ground as well. Three of his touchdown passes found the hands of fellow junior Gage Nein, as he finished his night with nine receptions for 118 yards and three scores. Cody Bates snagged the fourth touchdown pass of the night for his only reception. Logen Leithead had 124 yards on the ground and four scores, and Logan Levick had a rushing touchdown and 132 yards of total offense, as well as the game-sealing interception with 55 seconds remaining.

Bridgeport is now 1-2 on the year and will take on Perkins County on the road next Friday. The Plainsmen are now 2-1 after defeating South Loup, 40-12.
