Two local veterans, John Oliver and Kent Greenwalt received quilts of Valor from the local Panhandle Blocks chapter of the Quilts of Valor Foundation.  Both veterans were wrapped with hand made quilts, made by local stitchers and quilters who volunteered their time and talent as a way to honor and thank our area veterans for their military service.  “We honor you for leaving your home and loved ones and all you hold dear to stand in harm’s way, defending our country,” said volunteer stitcher Peggy Maunier.  “We know that freedom isn’t free. We have freedom because of you.  This quilt is meant to say thank you for your sacrifice.”

Kent Greenwalt served 8 years in the Nebraska National Guard, and John Oliver served 9 combined year in the US Army and Army Reserve.

The ceremony was hosted by the Knights of Columbus Council #2681, also in attendance was Kent Holmes, District Vice Commander for Post 36, and family members and friends.
