A 41-year-old Box Butte County woman is facing felony drug charges after an early morning traffic stop by the Nebraska State Patrol this week in Scottsbluff.

According to court documents, a Trooper stopped a car driven by Melissa Annen of Hemingford near the intersection of Highway 26 and East Overland shortly before 1 a.m. Thursday after she failed to signal two turns.

After seeing apparent drug paraphernalia in the car, the trooper conducted a probable cause search, finding a tin box with residue that tested positive for methamphetamine, and during her arrest, was asked if she had any contraband on her person, which she denied.

Records say at the Scotts Bluff County Detention Center, Annen gave the trooper paraphernalia concealed on her person, then admitted to jail staff she had more contraband in a body cavity. Items discovered were suspected cocaine, fentanyl and meth, determined by the trooper to all be in quantities beyond user amounts.

Annen made her initial appearance in Scotts Bluff County Court Friday morning on charges including possession with intent to distribute cocaine, 10 to 27 grams, two counts of possession with intent to distribute controlled substances, fentanyl and methamphetamine, as well as tampering with physical evidence.

A preliminary hearing was scheduled for Aug. 17, with bond in the case set at $400,000 with a ten percent provision.
