The Wyoming Highway Patrol says a Torrington Man died as the result of a head-on collision near Cheyenne Monday afternoon.
According to a WHP release, troopers were called shortly after 4:15 p.m. to the crash near milepost 28 on US 85 north of Cheyenne, finding a northbound Nissan Frontier had entered the southbound lane and collided with a Volvo commercial truck.
The driver of the Nissan was identified as 54-year-old Marin Lopez of Torrington. Investigators say Lopez was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, but he succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
The driver of the Volvo has been identified as 62-year-old Wade, North Carolina resident Rimantas Talalas, who was wearing a seat belt and not injured in the crash.
Driver inattention on the part of Lopez is being investigated as a potential contributing factor.
This is the 55th fatality on Wyoming’s roadways in 2021 compared to 59 in 2020, 93 in 2019, and 56 in 2018 to date.
