A Chadron man charged with First Degree Murder and Felony Use of a Firearm was back in court this week, and a trial date has been set.

Ian “Sage” Little Moon is accused of killing 72-year old John Martinez, who was in a relationship with Little Moon’s 33-year old sister at the time of the shooting according to court documents.

This past July, the defendant was accused of leaving the murder scene before police arrived, fleeing in a stolen minivan that was abandoned near Whiteclay, and was arrested by Tribal Authorities on the Pine Ridge Reservation.

District Judge Travis O’Gorman scheduled a three day jury trial, set to begin on October 26th in Dawes County District Court. He also approved a request for Little Moon to wear civilian clothes and appear without shackles during the trial.

If convicted, Little Moon could be facing life in prison.
