On Tuesday morning in the gym at EWC it was a Gering senior, Taydon Gorsuch, signing his letter of intent to join the Lancers rodeo team.

“It feels really good. Feels like I really worked hard for this. This is my dream to come to the next level and rodeo for Whit (EWC rodeo coach Whit Peterson) and for EWC.”

Gorsuch. A name known both locally and nationally to rodeo fans. Taydon is the son of two-time national steer wrestling champion, Dean Gorsuch.

“Of course my dad really inspired me to do this and Whit was a lot of help with this and I feel like he’s a really good coach and he can push me to be the best I can be. I loved how it just felt like home and I loved the community.”

Taydon is part of the first ever full recruiting class for Coach Peterson, who couldn’t be more excited to have the younger generation of the Gorsuch’s on campus.

“I’ve know the Gorsuch family for a while and obviously the lineage has been great with Dean. I was really excited when I got the opportunity to recruit Taydon and come here. He’s an all around athlete inside the arena and outside the arena. So you know he’s going to compete at a high level and always take it, give it 110 percent. I know that he’s a good kid, and a good athlete, and a really good bulldogger and team roper, so really excited about this one.”

At Gering High School, Gorsuch played football in the fall and was a member of Gering’s standout wrestling program over the winter months. Gering Schools hit the jackpot when they hired Jarred Berger as the wrestling coach back in 2017 and Gorsuch says he’s been key for his development.

“I just want to thank everybody in town. I really want to thank my parents. I especially want to thank coach Jarred Berger, my wrestling coach. He’s been a phenomenal person to me and really big mentor and really just helped me a lot.”

The high school rodeo season is coming up and Gorsuch says his goals include catching every steer, placing in every high school rodeo, and winning state.

We’ll feature Taydon Gorsuch signing with the EWC rodeo team on next Monday’s edition of KNEB.tv News.
