For a second straight season Gering junior Maddie Seiler has won the Class B State Cross Country title. Seiler crossed the line first on Friday at the Kearney Country Club with a time of 19:29.5. Seiler’s winning effort helped Gering claim a fifth place finish in the team standings.

Seiler’s winning time was nearly 21 seconds faster than the second place finisher.

This was just the third varsity race of the season for Seiler after she recovered from a summer foot injury. Seiler detailed the injury, recovery and possibility of winning today earlier this week on KNEB.tv News.

Jadyn Scott (15th) and Shailee Patton (30th) for Gering both notched top 30 finishes.

In the boys Class B race it was Lexington following up their district title by taking home the state championship with Gering back in eighth place. Eli Marez, Nathan Seiler, and Bryce Carrillo all finished inside the top 30.

Scottsbluff’s Hans Bastron was the top area finisher in 23rd place.

In Class C the Sidney Lady Raiders took home the team title and they were led by Talissa Tanqueray, who finished in third place individually. The Sidney boys finished second as a team and their top finish came from Daniel Bashtovoi in eighth place.

The Morrill girls showed well today in Kearney also finishing in ninth place. The top finisher for the Lions was Autumn Edwards.

And after finishing third at districts to get to State the Hemingford boys team finished 18th today in the overall standings.
