12:30 a.m. Update – After more than six and a half hours, the standoff in Alliance treated as a hostage situation has ended peacefully.

Alliance Police Sergeant Tim Peterson tells KNEB News that shortly after midnight, State Patrol negotiators were able to convince the female subject to leave the residence and step out onto a porch with her juvenile son, at which time members of the NSP SWAT team were able to take her into custody.

No shots were fired during the incident, and Peterson thanked officers from the assisting agencies for their quick response and support.

Additional details, including the name of the female subject and charges she may be facing, are anticipated to be released some time Friday.

11:00 p.m. Update – The situation remains unchanged in Alliance, where authorities have spent more than five and a half hours trying to convince a woman to give herself up.

Unlike the recent hostage standoff in Gering, no audible commands issued by authorities have been heard, but negotiations and discussions appear to have continued through more quiet means of communication.

The flashing of red and blue lights has all but disappeared, but the number of officers on scene has remained relatively the same.

A large contingent of law enforcement and medical responders are on the scene on the south side of Alliance Thursday evening as a standoff situation with a hostage has developed.

According to Alliance Police Sergeant Tim Peterson, officers were called to make a welfare check on a residence in the Grand Lake Village South Mobile Home Park around 5:25 p.m. when the woman responding to the door pointed a gun and threatened to shoot them.

Officers retreated and called for backup, with a response coming from the Nebraska State Patrol, as well as Sheriff’s deputies from Box Butte,Scotts Bluff, and Garden Counties, and officers from Nebraska Game and Parks.

Peterson says the woman has her child in the residence, and so the incident is being handled as a hostage situation.

He says NSP negotiators are on scene talking with the woman to try to bring about a peaceful conclusion, however the NSP SWAT Team was also called in, arriving shortly after 9:00 p.m. with their tactical vehicle.

Dispatchers initiated the Code Red alert system shortly after 6:00 p.m. with an advisory to shelter in place, however, Peterson said for an unknown reason, it was broadcast throughout the entire community. The alert was reissued around 8:40 p.m. but reduced to Kansas Street between Cody and South Mississippi, with an advisory the public should stay clear of the area.
