A snow storm that dropped a significant amount of snow in west central Nebraska has snarled traffic through much of the state.

Nebraska Department of Transportation officials say Interstate 80 is now closed westbound from the Wyoming line, and eastbound travel is closed at Kearney.

The storm that moved through the area starting Thursday dropped well in excess of a foot of snow in the North Platte area, however, the more difficult circumstance for drivers is the layer of ice that accumulated on the roadways before snow started to layer on top.

Highway 30 has also been impacted in the same fashion, with westbound traffic stopped at the Wyoming line, and eastbound travel generally closed from Cozad and Gothenburg.
