Scottsbluff Wins Over Bridgeport on Senior Night

SCOTTSBLUFF- Senior Emma Hergenreder had 15 kills to help propel the Scottsbluff Bearcats back into the win column over Bridgeport, 3-1.

Scottsbluff got out to an early 5-0 lead in set one before eventually pulling away with victory in the opening frame, 25-18. Then, in set two Bridgeport was able to even the match, 1-1, thanks to a huge second set performance from junior Jailyn Nichols, who tallied seven kills in the set.

In set three, Scottsbluff overcame an early, 4-1, deficit by going on a six point run from points 15-20 to rally back and take the third set, 25-14. Another senior, Margo Bowles, stepped up for the Bearcats in the frame to tally five kills, many of which were on second touches.

Bridgeport, needing a win in the fourth got another stellar effort from Nichols as she added five more kills to her tally in the fourth. Also in the mix for Bridgeport in the fourth was senior Tacey From, who added four more kills of her own as the fourth set went back and fourth with 14 ties in the set alone. Scottsbluff was able to pull away after the 14th and final tie at the 21-21 mark, eventually winning the set and the match with a 25-22 finish in set four.

Scottsbluff was led by Hergenreder with her 13th double-digit kill effort of the season, finishing with 15. Senior Margo Bowles also tallied 10 total kills on the night to finish behind Hergenreder. Another senior, Peyton May, finished the senior trio at the top of the kill leaderboard with five kills in the match. Junior Addy Bowlin had four kills while junior Heidi Groskopf and sophomore Mia Bowles finished with 3 each to round out the night for the Bearcats.

Bridgeport got a season high effort from junior Jailyn Nichols as she topped her previous season high of 11 kills against Leyton on Oct. 1 with a 17 kill effort against the Bearcats. Senior Tacey From added 10 kills of her own to the mix. Junior Fallon DeBlois had seven kills, senior Aubrey Watts had five kills, junior Kendal Deaver had 4 and junior Ella Schluterbusch had one kill to round out the scorecard for the Bulldogs.

Bridgeport is now 16-8 on the year and will play again at 6 p.m. at home against Mitchell on Thursday, Oct. 10.

Scottsbluff is now 10-15 and will be back in action at 10 a.m. at the Western Conference Tournament in Alliance as they open play against Sidney.
