Scottsbluff softball advances to State, Gering falls in District Final

On Saturday afternoon the 8th seeded Scottsbluff softball team advanced to the State Tournament by defeating No. 9 Columbus Lakeview in the B-8 best-of-three District Final two games to one.

Lakeview took game one 10-7 and then Scottsbluff took game two 13-5 in six innings.

The key blow in the game two win was an Aleigh Portenier grand slam in the third inning that took a two run deficit and turned it into a two run lead, 6-4.

Scottsbluff never looked back the rest of the day.

In game three Scottsbluff scored five runs in each of the first two innings and rolled to clinching win, the final 15-7 in five innings.

Portenier homered again and in the three games finished two homers and 11 RBI.

Top to bottom the lineup produced power and quality at bats with production 1-9 in the order.

Loural McCoy and Tatum Heimerman split up pitching duties throughout the day.

With the win Scottsbluff will face Northwest in the first round of the state tournament on Wednesday at 1 pm MT and we’ll have coverage on 107.3 The Trail & KHYYfm.com starting at 12:45 pm MT.

Gering falls to Duchesne/Roncalli

No. 2 seed Gering fell at home to No. 15 seed Duchesne/Roncalli in a two game sweep, dropping game one 9-6 and then were eliminated in game two 9-4,

Gabby Moreno finished 5-8 with three runs scored and two rbi with Liz Wiese finishing with four hits to help pace Gering offensively.

Gering finishes their season with a 22-6 record.
