Authorities in Scottsbluff say they’ve seen a significant spike in vehicle related crimes over the past two months.

Police Captain Brian Wasson says in 2021, there were a total of 50 reports of thefts from automobiles, but in just the past two months they’ve taken 20 reports.

Wasson adds that there’s also been six motor vehicle thefts in the past two months, tracking well ahead of the 33 total in 2021.

He says with these cold temperatures, people who leave their car running outside to warm up make very easy targets for potential theives.
