The Scottsbluff girls basketball team came up with a tremendous team performance on Saturday when they needed it the most.

In the Class B-7 District Final it was the #7 Scottsbluff Bearcats winning at home over the #10 Elkhorn Antlers, 52-44.

Head Coach Hattie Burford talks about the state tourney clinching win

Scottsbluff got career days from senior Allie Darnell along with junior Noemi Gurrola. Darnell came in averaging 2 points per game and scored 12 while Gurolla, a 5 ppg scorer, finished with 10.

On a day where the Elkhorn focus defensively was to take away senior Paige Horne along with sophomore Ava Reed the duo of Darnell and Gurrola were the major difference makers for Scottsbluff.

Reed wound up leading the team in scoring with 14 points going 8-8 at the free throw line while knocking down a pair of second quarter three-pointers.

I don’t have the final tallies on this stat category but there’s no doubt the Bearcats were dominant on the offensive glass as Elkhorn struggled mightily to rebound the ball defensively.

Scottsbluff will face Elkhorn North in the first round of the Class B State Tournament on Thursday at 5 pm MT at Pinnacle Bank Arena.

We’ll have coverage on 107.3 The Trail & KHYYfm.com starting at 4:45 pm MT.
