Scottsbluff, Gering softball teams pick up wins

The high school softball season is off and running and both teams right here in town were in action on Tuesday night.

At Scottsbluff the Bearcats made quick work of Sterling (CO), winning their home opener 12-0 in three innings with plenty of early offense and a freshman debuting in the circle.

Breanne Lilley worked a perfect three innings facing the minimum nine hitters while striking out two to earn the win.

Offensively, Scottsbluff got some help from the Sterling defense in the first inning and capitalized with five early runs and then they came back and scored seven more runs in the second.

The Bearcats got two hit games from Adryana Rodriguez and Michaela Henry; Henry drove in three runs on the night while Gering transfer Kay Michaelson finished with a pair of runs driven in which gives her already 15 RBI in the first five games of the season.

Scottsbluff improved to 5-0 on the season and they’ll be at Gering on Thursday night.

Gering wins first two games of season

After starting 0-5 last weekend the Gering Bulldogs got their first two wins of the season on Tuesday sweeping a doubleheader on the road from Hershey, winning game one 11-6 and then in game two the final was 15-4.

Offensively Gering with a combined for 29 hits in the two games. Gabby Moreno with five hits, a homer, and six runs scored in the two wins while Danae Savala and Ava Escamilla combined for seven hits in the game two win.

Libby Baum got the win in the circle in both games.
