With Nebraska lawmakers convened for a special session aimed at property tax relief, some city leaders are expressing concerns about caps on sales and use taxes.

Scottsbluff City Manager Kevin Spencer says he and city staff are keeping a close eye on what’ s transpiring this week in Lincoln.

“We’re paying a great deal of attention to the Governor’s special session. You know, when we became aware of his plan for a 0% cap on property taxes or on CPI, that really doesn’t work for us, or I should say, we have great concerns about that.”

Spencer says with ever increasing insurance and health care costs, those are some major factors compared to the Consumer Price Index rate of 3.4% at the end of 2023.
