The Scottsbluff Bearcats jumped all over Gering early and often on Friday night as they steamrolled their way to a 77-40 home win to even up the season series at one game apiece.

Scottsbluff won the opening tip and finished the possession with a lob dunk from Kellon Harris and for all intents and purposes the game was over.

Scottsbluff led 22-6 after one quarter and at halftime it was 44-10.

This game was a complete 180 from the first matchup of the season when Gering led start to finish and won at home 64-54.

Freshman Nate Kelley scored 10 of his 18 points in the first quarter and Harris scored 8 of his 18 in the second quarter. Scottsbluff also got big scoring nights from Carter Reisig and Michael Mickey, who both finished with 15 points.

The Bearcats connected on seven three pointers in the win.

Scottsbluff head coach Scott Gullion said afterward that it was the most locked in their defense had been this season. The Bearcats had a hand up and challenged nearly every shot from the Bulldogs.

For Gering it was similar to what happened Tuesday night in a 29 point home loss to North Platte. They fell behind quickly in that one and were down 25-10 after the first quarter in that loss.

Gering coach Rick Winkler after the game last night said he was “at a loss for words” for what transpired.

Gering had two players in double figures led by Jacob Van Anne’s 13 points. Kaden Bohnsack finished with 10 points.

Scottsbluff is now 15-10 and they’ll host the three team sub-district next week.

Gering dropped to 12-11 and they’ll play Alliance at Scottsbluff HIgh School on Wednesday in the first game of the subs with the winner playing Scottsbluff on Thursday.
