New charges have been filed against a rural Scottsbluff man who is already facing a litany of charges that include pulling a gun on his wife and exploiting a vulnerable elderly woman by forging names on real estate documents.

Charges were filed this week in Scotts Bluff County court against 50-year-old Barry Neal charging him with three, Class 1B Felony charges of 1st Degree Sexual Assault of a Child.

Neal was taken back into custody in June after failing to appear in court and was subsequently arrested on fresh charges.

When that story made local headlines, the family of a girl who was allegedly the victim of multiple years worth of sexual assault by Neal reached out to authorities.

Investigation, forensic interviews, and counseling records showed that the girl had stayed with the Neal’s during that time period, and was subject to sexual assaults multiple times.

The victim, who is now 16-years-old, told investigators that she had been scared to speak up when she was younger. Now, she is ready to tell the truth and is not scared any more.

If Neal is convicted on the latest charges, he would face 20 years to life on each of the three convictions. He’s set to be arraigned on these charges today in Scotts Bluff County Court.
