Work began this week on the repaving project for the main 12 – 30 runway at Western Nebraska Regional Airport.
Airport Director Raul Aguallo tells KNEB News they got started Monday putting up traffic control markings and beginning the process of edgework, which includes removing 4 inches of soil next to the runway to prevent water pooling.
Aguallo says they will be working from both ends of the runway, as phase 1 and phase 2 of the project are either end of the runway, which can be worked on simultaneously, and the the third phase is the intersection in the middle, which will lead to a complete shutdown of the airport for 10 days from August 21st through 30th.
He says they got started Monday putting up traffic control markings and beginning the process of edgework, which includes removing 4 inches of soil next to the runway.
Once the milling work begins, he says the process will move along rather quickly.
Aguallo notes that Simon Construction has done all of the paving at the airport for years, and have never gone over their completion date.
