Nebraska U.S. Sen. Pete Ricketts is taking the Biden administration to task for the decision to have Customs and Border Protection shut down rail crossings at the southern border in Eagle Pass and El Paso, Texas.

According to the Association of American Railroads, the CBP decision most directly and immediately impacts operations for Union Pacific and BNSF and their customers, as twenty-four trains use those crossings daily.

Ricketts told KNEB News the impact could be highly negative.

“Just on the Union Pacific alone is potentially 60 trains a day, maybe 10,000 cars. And that means, you think about Mexico is one of our largest trading partners just in general for this country, certainly for the state of Nebraska. We sell a large majority of our corn goes to Mexico. So this is going to impact our farmers. It’s going to cause consumers to pay higher prices, potentially cost American jobs,” Ricketts said.

Ricketts continued that shutting down rail traffic to process thousands of migrants illegally crossing should be enough for the President to admit we have a crisis at our border, and the only way to end the insanity is for Biden to get serious about border security.
