It took about 30 hours for firefighters to get control of a fire in the Redington Hills of Morrill County over the weekend.
Bridgeport Fire Chief Casey Sides tells KNEB News an apparent lightning strike started the blaze, with his department called to the scene Saturday afternoon around 4 p.m, and mutual aid provided from Banner County, Bayard, Broadwater and Dalton.
Early Sunday, several of those same departments were on hand with the fire nearing containment, when a windshift pushed flames out of the lines.
Sides says the single engine air tanker was finally able to provide support and made seven drops, and the fire consumed about 100 acres by the time it was brought under control Sunday night.
