Public Reminded of Firework Safety

Public Reminded of Firework Safety
July 2nd, 2024 | KNEB Staff

With fireworks now on sale leading up to the 4th of July, the staff at the Scottsbluff Fire Department wants to remind the public to be extra vigilant when lighting off those memories this year.

With a rash of week of high temperatures on the way, vegetation is going to start drying out, which can increase the chances of vegetation fires, and vegetation fires can also happen within City Limits if you’re not watering your grass or keeping up on your lawn. When lighting off fireworks ensure you have a garden hose nearby, and a bucket of water to soak the used fireworks in before disposing of them.

Some other important safety tips to follow as well:

  1. Never point or throw fireworks at another person
  2. Never allow young children to handle fireworks
  3. Do not try to re-light or handle malfunctioning fireworks
  4. And never hold lighted fireworks in your hands

Also if you have any furry friends, make sure your pets are in a safe space away from the fireworks before lighting them, or keep them inside.

Be mindful and respectful of your neighbors. You can only light fireworks between 8 AM and 10 PM from June 25th through July 3rd and on July 4th between 8 AM and 11:59 PM, and keep your neighborhoods clean by cleaning up your trash and debris.

As always, staff will be available for any emergencies should any arise, if you see an emergency vehicle coming down your street, try and hold off on lighting off any fireworks until they have passed so it doesn’t delay them.
