Power outages continue in the region following the severe weather that moved through Thursday afternoon.

Nebraska Public Power District officials say as of about 8:15 a.m. Friday, nearly 475 customers in Mitchell, 200-plus in Scottsbluff and another 100 or so north of town remained without power.

Roosevelt Public Power had about 1,400 customers without electricity Friday morning, having restored power to 600 customers Thursday. Roosevelt officials say power is being restored in stages, but those south/southwest of Mitchell around County Road 12 should be prepared for an outage that could extend through the weekend.

In the meantime, community officials are beginning to announce their plans to help residents deal with downed trees and related yard waste debris.

The City of Scottsbluff is asking everyone to put their yard debris in their yard waste containers first, then use biodegradable yard waste bags if needed.

Small branches and trees should be cut to six feet in length and can be set at the curb, and crews will spend the first part of next week picking them up. Larger debris on private property, including large trees/branches, can be hauled to the Scottsbluff Tree Dump, which will be open Saturday and Sunday, 8 AM to 5 PM, and normal hours next week. Everyone is asked to accomplish their clean-up efforts by next Wednesday.

The Westmoor Pool will most likely be closed Friday to repair storm damage. Watch the City’s Facebook page for further information.
