The City of Scottsbluff is moving forward with an idea to repurpose the tennis courts at Westmoor Park.

On Monday, the city council accepted a bid of $356,000 from a Denver firm to build six pickleball courts.

During a storm earlier this year, winds knocked a tree into the northside fencing of the existing tennis courts, and has been closed since.

Council member Matt Salomon asked if this would be popular if approved, and several people quickly responded with a resounding ‘yes’. City Manager Kevin Spencer noted that the courts in Gering seem to be always utilized, while the Westmoor tennis courts was severely underutilized.

Parks and Rec Director Matt Carpenter said, ARPA funds will be utilized to help pay for the pickleball court project.
