Jail time and restitution for a pastor who embezzled thousands of dollars from United Methodist Church in Mitchell.

In June, 43-year-old Joseph Schumacher Jr. pleaded guilty to two counts of Attempted Theft by Taking ($1,500 to $5,000).

On Friday, District Judge Andrea Miller sentenced him to concurrent 90 day jail sentences, a term of 12 months of probation, and ordered him to pay $6,740 in restitution.

An investigation concluded with Schumacher’s arrest in November after it was discovered that there were numerous unauthorized ATM withdrawals from the Mitchell Methodist Church account.
