The frozen food home delivery business formerly known as Schwan’s is pulling out of Nebraska, and that includes their operation in Gering.

Toward the end of October, Cygnus Home Service, LLC submitted a WARN Act notice to the Nebraska Department of Labor that their five remaining ‘Yelloh’ locations in the state will cease operations Dec. 15.

Seven positions at the Gering location on Rundell Road will be lost, with a total of 41 jobs being eliminated across the Nebraska.

The notification says each employee will be paid through Dec. 26, and will remain on the company’s benefit plan, consistent with WARN Act requirements.

According to a statement from the Bloomington, MN company, 90 delivery centers across the country will be closing, starting Dec. 8, impacting about 750 employees in sales, field and corporate teams. The company blamed economic headwinds, rising business costs and “the post-pandemic world” for the decision to concentrate their delivery services to 18 states that were the foundation of the business: Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Texas, Vermont, West Virginia and Wisconsin.

Customers across the U.S. can still obtain their favorite items by ordering online, in the app, or by calling. Products ordered in that fashion are shipped via UPS for a set delivery charge dependent on the dollar amount of the order.
