Omaha Conservatory of Music is excited to announce that it has received a grant from the Oregon Trail Community Foundation in support of its String Sprouts program for the 2024/25 academic year. This initiative offers five years of no cost string classes, complete with instruments, to 3 and 6-year-olds residing in the Scottsbluff/Gering area, ensuring access to musical education for those who might not otherwise have such opportunities. The impact of String Sprouts extends beyond music, fostering academic and social growth among its young participants.
Currently, 49 students are enrolled in String Sprouts in western Nebraska. Since its inception in 2014, the Oregon Trail Community Foundation has been a steadfast ally, supporting the educational mission of String Sprouts.

Ruth Meints, artistic director of Omaha Conservatory of Music, has created a unique curriculum for 3- through 8-year-olds that includes delightful repertoire written by a young, local composer Dryden Meints. Watch them — and others — talk more about this program in a video on our website. String Sprouts brings low to not cost classes and instruments to 3- through 8-year-olds, at strategically selected areas of Omaha and beyond, who otherwise wouldn’t have access to such opportunities.
