It was standing room only this weekend as independent U.S. Senate candidate Dan Osborn held a forum at the Frontside bar in Scottsbluff.

Osborn, who had challenged Republican Sen. Deb Fisher to a series of debates, asked the crowd of about a hundred for their support, noting a recent poll showed him essentially tied with Fisher among those expressing a preference.

“That following has prompted Senator Fisher to go negative right out of the gate. I can tell you that I do not support abortion up to nine months. I can tell you, I’m not a Bernie Sanders Democrat and. I don’t support the Green New Deal. I can tell you, what are some of the other ones? I don’t even know, they’re all fake,” said Osborn. “I think one of them was supporting benefits for undocumented workers, social security benefits. I don’t know where they got all that stuff.”

In the poll commissioned by Retire Career Politicians PAC and conducted by Global Strategy Group, Fischer held a one point lead over Osborn, 39% to 38%, with 23% undecided.

Osborn claimed that unlike the incumbent, he was not taking any money from big PAC donors and large corporations, saying his focus was on small money donations from individuals. When asked if his campaign had accepted donations from billionaire George Soros, Osborn said Soros had contributed, but those funds were rejected and returned to the progressive activist.

The majority of his event was questions and answers, with Osborn discussing topics such as gun rights, abortion and other hot button issues.

The Scottsbluff stop was one of several for Osborn that were scheduled to take place throughout the day this past Saturday.
