Ten projects are on the One and Six Year road improvement plan for Scotts Bluff County, with only two major construction projects on the list.

Commissioners last week approved the plan, which includes the $2.1 million repair to the southbound 10th Street/Broadway river bridge that is set to start in December and take up to a year for completion.

Also on the list is a $1 million project for an asphalt overlay on the northern-most two miles of Stegall Road according to Roads Superintendent Steve Baird. “It’s real similar to the one we did when we added on that two miles from the original (Stegall Road) project out there, because, what did we do, ten miles? And then we added on an emergency thing because the next two miles were unsafe. It’s going to be similar to that part there,” said Baird, who continued that repair section is holding up well. “This is going to be just identical to what we just did on Highland (earlier this year).”

For the river bridge work, the cost is being split between two fiscal years, due in part to the fact ARPA funding is paying for much of the cost. Baird said he asked law enforcement and fire officials on both sides of the bridge about two-way traffic on the east span during that construction, but all of them recommended using detours due to safety concerns.

Also on the list are several chip seal projects, as well as a bridge replacement on County Road M over Nine Mile Creek, and three bridge rehabilitation projects.
