The Scottsbluff Police Department has received a traffic enforcement and education grant from the Nebraska Department of Transportation Office of Highway Safety.

In the past Scottsbluff Police have needed to apply for individual grants for each activity that they participated in. This included such things as “Click it or Ticket”, “You Drink and Drive You Lose”, “U Drive, U Text, U Pay”, or alcohol compliance checks. This new traffic enforcement and education grant is a single grant for all enforcement and educational activities for year. The grant will also pay for officers to conduct education classes on traffic safety and perform community outreach activities.

Sgt Philip Eckerberg said “Having this yearlong grant allows us to participate in all the scheduled traffic enforcement waves and also gives us the flexibility to address traffic enforcement problems that come up though the year.

“For example, the changes in traffic patterns that will occur when the 10th Street North Platte River bridge is closed later this year. We will also be able to give seminars on such topics as bicycle safety and pedestrian safety.”
