During the month of August, nineteen people were killed in traffic crashes on Nebraska roadways, bringing the year to date number of highway fatalities to 164.
Seven of the twelve vehicle occupants killed were not using seatbelts, three were using a restraint, and two had seatbelt usage marked as unknown.
Two fatalities were pedestrians, two bicyclists, one was driving an ATV and another driving a farm tractor.
The number of fatalities so far this year is running 22 percent higher than last year, and 12 percent higher than the average over the prior four years.
