Morrill Public Schools could soon be on the hunt for a new top administrator for the District.
The MPS Board of Education has called a special meeting next Monday at 7 p.m. to “consider / possibly approve the resignation of Barry Schaeffer as of June 30,” which is the final day of his current contract.
During meetings last month, the Board first voted to change the term for the Superintendent’s contract to one year, and later deadlocked 3 to 3 when considering a new one-year contract for Schaeffer.
Those moves came after disclosure of a significant future budget deficit and approval of a reduction in force for Morrill Public Schools, something other districts in the region are also facing due to declining enrollments, less state aid and the end of pandemic-era funding.
The Board will also consider an interim option to fill the position, and potentially hiring a firm to conduct a candidate search during next week’s meeting.
