A new event is taking place the first Wednesday of the summer months in the shadow of a popular Oregon Trail landmark.

Wild West Wednesdays begins this evening, running from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Chimney Rock Trailhead Parking Lot.

Sandra Reddish, Nebraska State Historical Society Foundation Western Nebraska Coordinator, says attendees can enjoy some food and drink while learning a little history. “Last year, they opened up the new trails at the end of July, and it was a very soft opening,” said Reddish. “More people are finding out about us, and the executive director thought ‘Hey, let’s start getting some events out there, and letting people enjoy themselves and enjoy the trails’.”

Reddish credits Nikki at Flyover Brewing for coming up with the name for the event.

You’re encouraged to bring your own lawn chairs and enjoy offerings from Flyover Brewing Company and Mike’s Wild Dogs this evening as Reddish discusses the history of Japanese Nebraskans in the North Platte River Valley.

Additional presentations will take place July 3 and August 7.
