There’s been a shuffling of city government positions in Minatare sparked by the immediate resignation last week of Mayor Cheryl Spencer for personal reasons.

At Tuesday’s meeting, Council President Celeste Sanchez, who is running for re-election to Ward 1, stepped down from that seat to fill the remainder of Spencer’s term.

Sanchez says she hopes to name someone to fill what’s left of her current term in Ward 1 during the August meeting, while Frank Costa, who is running for Mayor this year, has taken over as council President.

Sanchez also tells KNEB News the city has hired a new city clerk/treasurer who will start toward the end of the month, as well as a part-time clerk who already has experience for the office.
