A 63-year-old Scottsbluff man sentenced this morning to a total of 45 to 90 years in prison .
Leo Smith was arrested in March on 26 felony charges for having sexual contact with a child. Court records say Smith and the victim had been watching pornography and engaging in sexual contact since August 2022. Investigators say when interviewed, Smith said everything the victim had described was true.
In July, Smith plead guilty to three, Class 1B Felony charges of 1st Degree Sexual Assault on a Child (More than 12 years of Age but less than 16).
During Friday morning’s sentencing, District Judge Leo Dobrovolny sentenced Smith to 15 to 30 years on each of the three counts, which will be served consecutive to each other. Each count carries a mandatory minimum of 15 years, meaning Smith won’t be eligible for parole until he’s 107 years old.
