TORRINGTON, Wyo. – Eastern Wyoming College’s Men’s Golf Team finished on top of the leaderboard with a -4 at the Otero Community College Tournament in La Junta, Colorado. The women’s team finished second.

The Lancers’ Taiki Sugawara topped the leaderboard with a -5 to win the tournament. Fellow Lancer Freddie Dancox finished in a tie for second with a -1. EWC’s Joshua Chapman finished in tie for fourth place with a +1, while teammate Tytan Birchall finished in sixth with a +2. Lancer Braylon Bingham finished in a tie for seventh place with a +3, while Lancers Coltin Powell finished in 11th place with a +6 and John Lane finished in a tie for 17th place.

“Taiki had another great tournament along with a host of other guys that placed in the top 10,” EWC Head Golf Coach Zach Smith said. “”Both teams had another good week. The guys played well both days to come away with a big win. The girls were down eight strokes going into day two and were able to cut it to four at the end of the tournament.”

The Lady Lancers finished in second place, four strokes behind Otero College. Lancer Elliann Irick finished in fourth place with a +25. Lancers Jessica Applegarth and Georgie Lou Paterakis finished in a tie for fifth place, while teammates Shayla Clayton and Bailey Watson finished in a tie for seventh.

“I’m pleased with both teams’ progress,” Smith said. “Hopefully we can get a men’s and women’s team win in Lamar.”

The Lancers will travel to Lamar, Colorado on Oct. 3-4 for the Lamar Tournament.
