Kimball Motel Shooter Case Remains in County Court
February 22nd, 2024 | Ryan Murphy

It’s been nearly four months since a Kimball motel owner was arrested and charged after shooting a tenant, yet the case still remains in Kimball County Court.

86-year-old Leota Kant is charged with Attempted Murder and Use of a Firearm to Commit a felony for the Halloween shooting incident.

Last week in Kimball County Court, Kant failed to appear for a hearing on a motion for a competency evaluation. Judge Randin Rolland continued the hearing until March 27th.

The victim in the case has also filed a civil lawsuit against Kant for damages to cover medical costs, lost wages, pain and suffering, and more. That civil case is pending in Kimball County District Court.
