July 1st, 2024 | News Release

The Peter Kiewit Foundation has announced a significant grant of up to $270,000 to provide Western Nebraska Community College students with vocational scholarships for 2024-26, 2025-27, and 2026-28 academic years.

Scholarships will be awarded to students pursuing Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics programs or vocational/CTE (Career and Technical Education) degrees, diplomas, or certificates.

“PKF is helping Nebraska students access education, succeed in the classroom, and contribute to the Nebraska workforce,” WNCC Foundation Executive Director, Jennifer Reisig said. “We are so grateful for their support of WNCC students through this scholarship.”

The grant will fund 15 Peter Kiewit Foundation Vocational Scholarships per cohort, each valued at up to $3,000 per academic year. These scholarships, which are renewable for a second year, provide ongoing support to students throughout their educational journey and aim to empower students, enhance the educational experience, and contribute to the region’s skilled workforce.

“Receiving the scholarship is helping me to achieve my goal of being debt free from WNCC,” Madison Rut, a WNCC nursing student said. “I have previous student loans and I set the goal to work as hard as possible to come out with no more acquired debt. It truly means the world to me that I was chosen to receive this scholarship.”

Peter Kiewit Foundation Vocational Scholarships are available to Nebraska residents who demonstrate financial need. Financial need can be verified through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid or through an alternate method for students not eligible to submit a FAFSA. Students must be enrolled for at least nine credit hours per semester and must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5.
