Authorities are investigating a house fire in southeast Scottsbluff Saturday afternoon.

City Fire Marshal Anthony Murphy says shortly before 1 p.m., Scottsbluff and Gering firefighters, along with Scottsbluff Police and Valley Ambulance, were called to a report of smoke coming from an abandoned house in the 1200 block of 9th Ave.

Murphy says crews encountered high heat and smoke throughout the house, and extinguished fire, primarily contained to one room.

During his investigation into the cause, Murphy says he requested SPD investigators to assist. He tells KNEB News police are continuing their investigation, with authorities having cleared the scene just before 7pm.

The house was being remodeled, no one was in the home when crews arrived, and no firefighters were injured, according to Murphy.

NPPD and Black Hills Energy also responded to the scene. The house was deemed to be a total loss.
