An investigation is ongoing following the death of a factory worker at the Western Sugar processing facility in Fort Morgan, Colorado.
9NEWS in Denver reports the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office said one person died and four other people were treated at a hospital after likely exposure to hydrogen sulfide gas Wednesday afternoon.
Workers at the plant were performing what was characterized as routine maintenance when the exposure took place, with first responders called shortly after 3:30 p.m.
In a statement released to 9NEWS, the company said “We are mourning the loss of one of our maintenance team members and extend our thoughts and prayers to his family, friends, and colleagues.”
The name of the person who died has not been released by authorities.
