Authorities in Alliance say an investigation is underway into a home invasion early this (Wednesday) morning that left the intruder dead.

In a news release, Police Chief David Leavitt says at 2:24 a.m., police received a call from a homeowner in the 100 block of S. Flack Avenue, saying he had just shot an intruder who had forcibly entered his home.

Leavitt says the suspect, Jerome Robb, who has a history of burglary, was pronounced dead and was transported for a routine autopsy on order of the county coroner.

Leavitt says although the investigation is ongoing, evidence on the scene is consistent with the description of events provided by the homeowner, and while the case will be reviewed by the Box Butte County Attorney, no charges have been recommended against the homeowner at this time.

EDITOR’S NOTE: While Alliance Police Chief Leavitt did identify the homeowner in his news release, KNEB News’ policy is to protect the identity of victims; in this instance, the individual’s name is being withheld pending the outcome of the Box Butte County Attorney review and the filing of any related criminal charges.
