Two Panhandle students have been named National Merit Scholarship award winners.

Scottsbluff High School’s Ava Imhof, the daughter of Michael and Sara Imhof of Scottsbluff, is among the 2,500 NMS winners nationwide announced by the organization Wednesday.

District Superintendent Dr. Andrew Dick says it’s an immense honor for the senior considering a career in engineering. ” It’s certainly a testament to Ava’s dedication and hard work and how she has been so diligently focused on her studies. We’re very proud of her accomplishments and excited to celebrate with her in this remarkable accomplishment,” said Dr. Dick.

Joining Ava in the rare company is Sidney High School Senior Daniel Bashtovoi, who listed biomedical engineering as his probable career field.

Ava and Daniel are among just 16 students from across Nebraska to be named winners of a $2,500 scholarship in Wednesday’s announcement. In April, two other Nebraska students were announced as winners of corporate-sponsored Merit Scholarship awards.
