Georgeann Wearin of Hyannis, Nebraska, is in the running to sing the National Anthem at the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas, Nevada, this December.

With deep roots in rodeo and a profound love for her country, Wearin has performed the National Anthem at many large rodeos across the United States. She has sang America’s #1 song at Cheyenne Frontier Days, the College National Finals Rodeo, the National High School Finals Rodeo, at WCRA events, and on countless other occasions.

“I always joke and say the National Anthem is my “jam,” she said. “I love this country and I love the National Anthem. It’s a tough song to sing, but I have such a low voice range that it works out for me.”

Wearin sees performing the National Anthem as a “tip of the hat” to those who have protected our freedoms.

“When I sing it, I truly do sing for my country and for the veterans,” she said.

Wearin’s love for the western world is all-encompassing. She grew up competing in rodeos at every level and was named the 1998 Female Cowboy Poet of the Year by the Academy of Western Artists. These days, she can be found announcing rodeos, entertaining crowds with her poetry and original music, and spending time with her family.

Voting in the preliminary round of the National Anthem Contest will continue until September 11. From there, the pool will be narrowed down to a smaller group of contestants. Voters are allowed one vote per email address.
