There was local high school soccer in town on Tuesday with Scottsbluff and Gering both hosting schools from Wyoming as the Bearcats swept Douglas and Gering split with Newcastle.
At the Landers Complex in the Scottsbluff girls game Ella Foote scored four goals and Madi Kovarik netted one in a 5-3 win. The Scottsbluff girls are now 2-3 on the year.
In the boys game it went to OT but Scottsbluff got the 3-1 win. “We played ugly and won ugly”, head coach Nate Rock said.
Paxton Dart scored twice on penalty kicks including the game winner in OT while Harry Heldt added the late insurance goal as the Scottsbluff boys won their third straight match (3-2).
Scottsbluff will be on the road for a triangular this weekend with matches against Elkhorn North and Hastings.
Over at Gering the Bulldogs girls team won their third straight match with a 7-1 win over Newcastle with Jacelyn Brown leading the way with four goals. Other scorers were Allison Herbel, Josalyn Scott, and Ayita Gomez.
The offense has broken out here of late for head coach Krista Wiedeman.
“Overall the girls have shown a lot of improvement in playing the ball out of the back and through the midfield, and making passes which have put us into scoring position. We’ve set some goals in passing completion and winning the 50/50 balls and the girls are focused on achieving them.”
Then in the boys match a tight loss for the Bulldogs by the final of 2-1 as Gering stayed winless on the season.
