Holdrege will be one of four locations for the 2024 Soybean Management Field Days.
Hosted at Blake Johnson’s farm just west of Holdrege, the field days are a chance for growers to see the latest in soybean production, management and marketing.
The field day will be held the evening of Tuesday, August 13 from 6 – 8.
There are a few changes to the Soybean Management Field Days this year: evening hours and a soybean TAPS program.
“The [Nebraska] Soybean Board partnered with the University to add soybeans into the TAPS program,” Johnson said. “So, teams were able to sign up and make management decisions throughout the year in competition for yield and overall profitability.”
The TAPS program, which stands for Testing Ag Performance Solutions, facilitates real-life farm management competitions.
Johnson was featured in Fridays in the Field, presented by FNBO. He said this growing season has presented many challenges for producers in south-central Nebraska, so attendees will see firsthand how area crops have held up to severe weather.
“We had wind events early where we lost center pivots and then we had two different hailstorms that come through and did a lot of crop damage,” he said. “So it’s been far from normal. We’ve had to make a lot of adjustments on the fly to adapt to what Mother Nature’s given us this year.”
Johnson said the field day will also bring in University experts to discuss dectes stem borer management and new tools for irrigation scheduling.
Three other sites are scheduled for the Soybean Management Field Days this year.
