The WESTCO Zephyrs got a dominant pitching performance from Wyatt Haught on Thursday night as they picked up a road win at Bower Shankland Field in Alliance over the Sparts by the final of 6-0.
Haught was barely threatened on the night as he tossed a complete game shutout, working seven innings while allowing just two hits, two walks, and striking out nine. The lefthander had a perfect game for through 4.2 innings as he retired the first 14 hitters he faced.
Z’s head coach Jeremiah Luber was impressed, “Well he pitched with a lot of confidence and he commanded his fastball very well. He was attacking the strike zone early and often and that was a huge key to his success. He pitched with a lot of confidence, we made plays behind him and that was good to see.”
Offensively for WESTCO in this one they put together a nine-hit attack and the scoring started in the first inning as Hunter McCollum set the tone with a well struck RBI triple that scored Porter Robbins. The Z’s got two in the first, three in the third inning, and then one more run in the fifth.
Jace Heimerman and Andon Pittman each had two hit nights for the Zephyrs.
With the win WESTCO improved to 6-5 while Alliance dropped to 3-2. The Spartans were shutout on back to back nights after they were beaten over at Gering on Wednesday 7-0.
Weekend baseball
WESTCO Zephyrs- Hosting the ALLO Communications Tournament at Cleveland Field on Saturday and Sunday with games against the Cheyenne Hawks and Wheatland. The Z’s will play their first game tomorrow afternoon at 1 pm against Cheyenne.
Gering PVC- Hosting the Platte Valley Companies Tournament at Oregon Trail Park. Action starts today and runs through Sunday. Gering won’t play until tomorrow morning when they take on Chadron at 10:30.
