Gering High School Target of Widespread Hoax Shooting Call

Gering High School Target of Widespread Hoax Shooting Call
March 2nd, 2023 | KNEB Staff

A scary scene Thursday morning at Gering High School, as a large presence of first responders convened at Gering High School.

District Officials say at approximately 8:30 a.m., a Google-generated number called police dispatch to report a student with a gun at Gering High School. Law enforcement were dispatched to the school immediately, and the district crisis plan procedures were put in place. SWAT Teams performed walk-throughs at all GHS buildings and determined that the call was a hoax.

Gering Police Captain Jason Rogers says that Gering was among at least five school districts across the state to be the target of the exact same hoax call, and reiterated that nobody was injured.

They have activated the Crisis Response Team to Gering High School and members will be available to meet with students and staff who need support in processing the events. Thank you again for your patience as we work to keep staff and students safe.
