After years of decay as it sat unused and empty, the former Kmart building and surrounding property in Scottsbluff have finally been sold.

According to Scotts Bluff County property records, US Realty 86 Associates, which was the company holding the property as the Sears bankruptcy wound through the courts, sold that parcel, and the adjacent strip mall, to what appears to be a subsidiary of Rockstep Capital, the owner of the nearby Uptown Scottsbluff mall.

Scottsbluff KM Redevelopment, LLC purchased the properties on the southwest corner of Highway 26 and W. 27th Street on Dec. 22, 2022, for $2.45 million, and the sales document shows future property tax bills should be sent to an address in Houston, Texas to the attention of Andy Weiner.

Mr. Weiner is the President of Rockstep, and the address corresponds exactly to that company’s headquarters in the Lone Star state. Available Delaware state business records do not show the principals behind Scottsbluff KM Redevelopment, only that it was formed a month prior to the purchase, and that the registered agent is based in that state.

KNEB News has reached out to Rockstep for confirmation and comment on the sale, but has not heard back from the organization as of this publication.
