Florida is going meatless-less.
The state has set a groundbreaking precedent by being the first state to officially prohibit the manufacturing and sales of lab-grown meat, with other states considering similar measures.
This move follows opposition from politicians and meat lobbying groups like the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association who argue that lab-grown meat poses a threat to traditional agriculture.
Despite the ban, about 150 companies are actively involved in developing lab-grown meat nationwide.
While some industry giants like Tyson, Perdue, Nestlé, and Cargill have invested in alternative protein research, there’s a divide within the meat industry, with larger players opposing such bans citing concerns about consumer choice and innovation.
